with an emphasis in Special Education

Special Education-Consulting Teacher/Learning Specialist

This program is designed for students seeking advanced skills in special education. Applicants need to hold a special education endorsement. In order to become endorsed as a Consulting Teacher/Learning Specialist, two years of teaching experience is required with students with disabilities. Teaching experience is not interpreted to mean experience as a para-educator, instructional assistant, or student teaching intern. Documentation of employment needs to be provided.

EDU 5150 Survey of Exceptional Children and Young Adults 3 cr
EDU 6331 Assessment for Instructional Planning in Special Education 3 cr
EDU 6220 Special Education and the Law 3 cr
EDU 6250 Advanced Learning Disabilities 3 cr
EDU 6430 Curriculum Management 3 cr
EDU 6463 Collaboration in Special Education 3 cr
EDU 6560 Curriculum Development 3 cr
EDU 6880 Graduate Practicum 3-9 cr
Students select three one-credit assessment modules from the following: 3 cr
EDU 6321 Introduction to Assessment in Special Education
EDU 6322 Portfolio Assessment for Students with Challenges
EDU 6323 Administration of the Woodcock-Johnson III Achievement Test
EDU 6324 Functional Behavior Assessment
EDU 6325 Linking Assessment with Individual Educational Plans
EDU 6326 Curriculum-Based Assessment for Students with Challenges
