Scholarships for First-Year Students
Honors Scholarship Program
The Castleton Honors Scholarship Program is open to eligible new full-time, first-year, matriculating students who enroll during the fall semester. Students in this program learn with similarly motivated students in an Honors First Year Seminar during the fall semester and in Honors Touchstones of Western Literature in the spring semester. In addition, honors scholars will also benefit from priority housing and registration during their first academic year.
Students who are admitted by March 1, 2008 will be awarded a scholarship based on the following eligibility criteria*:

Eligible students are awarded scholarship upon acceptance to the college. Students who choose to accept the scholarship and matriculate at Castleton will be expected to participate in the program. Scholarships are renewable for up to four years of continuous enrollment at Castleton without regard for need as long as the student maintains a 3.0/4.0 grade point average.
* Students must meet all eligibility criteria. GPA is calculated by Castleton Admissions using academic courses only on an unweighted 4.0 scale. Scholarships are awarded on a first come, first served basis to bachelor degree seeking students. Amounts are non-negotiable and may be used for tuition only.
Recognition Scholarships
Next Generation/Citizenship Scholarship
These scholarships will be awarded to new students entering Castleton in the fall semester. There is not a separate application for this scholarship; interested students are strongly encouraged to include a resume with their application for admission highlighting their dedication to school and community involvement as well as other achievements. All decisions will be based on information from the student’s admissions file.
Next Generation Scholarships (Vermont Residents Only)
Students must meet the following criteria to be considered*:
- be accepted to the college and plan to enroll full time
- be a first generation college student
- achieve a minimum high school grade point average of 3.0/4.0 together with a combined critical reading and math SAT score of 1000 or higher
- dedication to a school or community based organization, volunteer program, or part time employment
- demonstrate unmet financial need (FAFSA Required)
Citizenship Scholarships (Non-Residents Only)
Students must meet the following criteria to be considered*:
- be accepted to the college and plan to enroll full time
- achieve a minimum high school grade point average of 3.0/4.0 together with a combined critical reading and math SAT score of 1000 or higher
- dedication to a school or community based organization, volunteer program, or part time employment
- demonstrate unmet financial need (FAFSA Required)
Scholarships of up to $2,500 per year will be awarded to qualifying students on an ongoing basis beginning February 1st. Scholarships are renewable for up to four years of continuous enrollment at Castleton as long as the student maintains a 2.5/4.0 grade point average.

Music Scholarship
The Music Scholarship is open to entering students majoring in music. The award of $1000 is renewable provided the student maintains a 3.0/4.0 grade point average, remains a music major, and contributes positively to the program. An audition is required.
Spanish Scholarship
The Spanish Scholarship is open to all entering students majoring in Spanish. The recipient's award of $1000 is renewable provided that the student maintains a 3.0/4.0 grade point average and remains a Spanish major.
Vermont Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholarship
Any individual who can provide proof of valedictorian or salutatorian status from a Vermont public or independent high school approved by the Vermont State Board of Education will be eligible for the Vermont State Colleges’ Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholarship. Class ranking must be provided on an official high school transcript. Contact admissions for details.
