STUDENT EMPLOYEES
Student officers play an integral role in the Department of Public Safety. Students are responsible for writing reports, routine patrol, building lock-ups, and for helping to build and maintain positive relations with the College community. Public Safety encourages students with a desire for a career in criminal justice to apply for either patrol or switchboard/dispatch positions. Student officers learn to pay attention to detail, report writing, multi-tasking, and other communication skills. There is opportunity for student officers to participate in training that includes drug and alcohol awareness, CPR, First Aid, and other public safety-related issues. Students working dispatch are responsible for answering the College's main switchboard, as well as serving as the dispatch radio operator for public safety.
Many students use this job as a stepping stone for a career in law enforcement, and many criminal justice agencies look highly on students who have chosen to take on a job in public safety as such a job shows responsibility and a commitment to enforcing rules and regulations, as well as working in a multitask environment. |
