FIRE SAFETY AWARENESS

Fire Safety

Observing the Fire Code is a given at Castleton.  Not only does our Physical Plant Staff conduct routine inspections, our Public Safety office does also.  This check-and-balance system ensures that our fire alarms, sprinklers, smoke detectors, horns, and strobes are operating properly.

Fire drills are conducted the first week of classes of Fall, Spring, and Summer Semester; and after the October Break.  If we observe a problem with a residence hall not following proper evacuation procedures, we conduct - after passing the information to the students through the Resident Life Staff - an additional drill or drills until the students evacuate properly.

Any time a fire alarm activates, a report is generated addressing the date, time, building, cause, who responded, and any equipment failures or malfunctions.  This pertains to drills, tests, as well as false activations.

Please be aware that tampering with any fire equipment is not only hazardous to the occupants of a building but a Federal offense as well.
