Regrettably, history course requirements have been cut back or eliminated in our schools, yet the need for a strong history curriculum is more important than ever. An understanding and appreciation of American History prepares students for their role as citizens in our democracy. |

Teaching American History - Developing Master Teachers is a three-year program (2004-2006) of professional development funded by an $825,000 federal grant secured by the Addison-Rutland Supervisory Union and Castleton State College. This exciting project brings together 30 teachers each year, representing 51 elementary and secondary schools in three counties of southwest Vermont. |

Our mission is to develop an active network of K-16 educators dedicated to sharing teaching strategies, course content and resources throughout the region and beyond. This project will have a significant impact and serve as a model for improving the teaching of history statewide.
