The Crucible, which opened on Broadway in 1953, uses the Salem Witch Trials to examine issues raised by McCarthyism and the hearings of the House Un-American Activities Committee. The Castleton production -- directed by Steve Small, program director of Addison Repertory Theater in Middlebury – further blended eras to raise questions about many historical periods, including our own. |
