The Castleton State College Theatre Arts Department presented Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, September 21-24, 2006, in the newly renovated John and Susan Casella Theater in the Fine Arts Center.

The Crucible, which opened on Broadway in 1953, uses the Salem Witch Trials to examine issues raised by McCarthyism and the hearings of the House Un-American Activities Committee. The Castleton production -- directed by Steve Small, program director of Addison Repertory Theater in Middlebury – further blended eras to raise questions about many historical periods, including our own.
