For two weekends in March, 2001, the Castleton State College Theatre Arts Department presented MUSEUM, Tina Howe's witty expose of a contemporary art museum. Director and professor Ann McEntee explained, "ItÕs the final day of an exhibit entitled ÔThe Broken Silence,Õ although many of us might question whether it really is art. As a result, you get to watch and enjoy the response that post-modernist art generates in people. The visitors to the exhibit become works of art themselves." The audience was seated on stage within the museum and the play surrounded them. "It is a multi-focus show in which there are several actions going on simultaneously," McEntee said. "This is a wonderful challenge for the actors. I tell them that the only people who will watch you for the entire performance are your parents. In a multi-focus show, the members of the audience determine their own theater experience." |
