The seniors of the Castleton State College Theatre Arts Department presented Larry Shue's comedy The Nerd in the Fine Arts Center, April 26-27, 2002. Architect Willum Cubbert is visited by the man who saved his life in Vietnam, the clueless and tactless nerd who won't go away.

The Nerd was one of the funniest plays to be seen on the Castleton stage in a long time and was a credit to the professionalism of theatre students. It was directed by Susan Baker of Rutland, and featured Ed Dechen as the annoying nerd. A few days later Ed received the Theatre Arts DepartmentŐs Academic Excellence Award. He walked back to his seat in the Fine Arts Center in character as the nerd, as did theatre professor Harry McEnerny when he received the Student AssociationŐs award as Outstanding Faculty member of the year.
