Arts Reach 2007-08
Established in 2003, the mission of Arts Reach is to offer school children experience and education through live performances of various arts genre. Arts Reach is designed to provide entertaining performances with cultural and racial diversity. This project is unique because it is run in collaboration with the college's award winning academic course, Soundings, as well as collaborating with Castleton students in researching and writing some of the curriculum guides provided to teachers.   Special Program: During Vermont teachers Convention Week, Arts Reach will offer free  admission to children under 12 to this event. Young audience members will receive a concert program especially created for them by Arts Reach staff and a chance to win prizes!

Turtle Island Quartet
"The String Quartet is Like a Family"

 This engaging and accessible presentation utilizes the model of the family to help students understand how a string quartet functions and thrives. Children are invited to participate throughout the presentation, joining in rhythmic clap-alongs, dialogue with quartet members, and a question-and-answer period following a rousing rock and roll finish.

Dancers will demonstrate movement that has the clarity of various genres of dance. The excerpts from PHILADANCO'S repertoire that will be shared include Rosa - a contemporary ballet that is a vivid tribute to Rosa Parks, plus other works featuring different forms of dance.

The Last, the Very Last Butterfly

 A Holocaust remembrance piece designed for older elementary and middle school students. "Butterfly" is a collection of poems, narrative, and drawings created by children who passed through the Terezin Concentration Camp between 1942 and 1944.
