Castleton Picked to Defend NAC Title in Preseason Poll

(September 4, 2008) - Castleton State College has been chosen the preseason favorite to win the NAC men’s soccer title in a vote conducted by the league’s coaches. The Spartans return nine starters from a team that went 6-1-1 in conference play. Castleton will be led by the 2007 NAC Player of the Year Ryan Hahn. Anchoring the defense will be first team all-conference selection senior goalkeeper Mike Anthony. The Spartans received six of seven first place votes and 63 points.

Husson University received the remaining first place vote and 57 points to place second in the poll.The Eagles bring back 11 starters from a squad that advanced to the championship game of the NAC tournament. Husson is led by senior midfielder Josh Bartlette and in the goal by the 2007 NAC Rookie of the Year Miguel Dominguez.

Becker, Elms and Lesley, who competed as full members in 2007, will compete in the newly formed New England Collegiate Conference beginning in 2008.
