(October 25, 2007) - After finishing conference play 6-1-1, Castleton has earned the top seed in the upcoming North Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Championship. The Spartans (10-7-1 overall) will host in-state rival and eight seed Johnson State (4- 11-0 overall, 2-6-0 NAC) when quarterfinal action begins this Sunday, October 28. The Spartans only loss in conference play came in overtime at the hands of the Badgers on Sept. 8.
Becker will enter the championship as the second seed. With a 6-2-0 conference mark (14-5 overall), the Hawks will host seventh seed Thomas (7-8-3 overall, 2-5-1 NAC). Third seed Husson (8-9-1 overall, 5-2-1 NAC) will host sixth seed Lesley (8-9-1 overall, 3-5-0 NAC). Maine-Farmington, who knocked off Becker and tied top seed Castleton, will travel to fourth seed Elms (5-10-1 overall, 5-3-0 NAC).
The top eight teams qualify for the NAC Championship. Predetermined tiebreaking procedures were used to seed teams with identical conference winning percentages. Quarterfinal games will be played on Sunday, October 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the higher seed unless otherwise noted. Quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinals held at the higher seed on Wednesday, October 31 at 2:00 p.m. Semifinal winners will meet Saturday, November 3 at the highest remaining seed. Game times are subject to change. The NAC Champion receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship.
