#1 Castleton Advances to Semifinal Round

(October 28, 2007) - Castleton, VT-The first-seeded Castleton State College men’s soccer team North Atlantic Conferenceadvanced to the semifinal round of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Tournament with a 2-0 win over eighth-seeded Johnson State College.

The two teams battled through nearly 76 minutes of scoreless soccer before Castleton tallied a pair of late goals to advance.

Bennett Laderoute scored his second collegiate goal at 75:42 after corralling a misdirected pass in the box. Johnson State keeper, Andrew Lane, who was fantastic all day was caught heading in the wrong direction and Laderoute sent home the game-winner.

Less than three minutes later Corey Robbins tacked on an insurance goal after a series of jukes and fancy footwork had him 10 yards out. The sophomore forward blasted a left-footed rocket to the upper right corner of the goal, just past Lane’s outstretched hand.

Lane finished the game with seven saves as Johnson State’s season comes to a close at 4-12. Mike Anthony made three saves in the victory as Castleton improves to 11-7-1. The Spartans will host U. Maine-Farmington on Wednesday, October 31 at a time to be determined. [Box Score]
