#1 Castleton Earns Spot in NAC Final

(October 31, 2007) - Castleton, VT-The top-seeded Castleton State College men’s soccer team North Atlantic Conferencepunched its ticket to the North Atlantic Conference Tournament Final with a 3-0 win over fifth-seeded University of Maine at Farmington.

The two teams battled through 22:54 of back-and-forth scoreless soccer action, reminiscent of the 0-0 tie the two teams played to just 10 days prior. Sophomore, Corey Robbins put a stop to that, with a rocket that beat Farmington keeper, Brian Lemont.

In the 35th minute Bennett Laderoute took a centering pass from Ryan Hahn and one touched it inside te near post to give Castleton the 2-0 halftime lead.

The Spartans would tack on one more insurance goal in the 67th minute as Josh Costa struck for his first collegiate goal, assisted by freshman classmate, Chris Mullholand. Costa gathered in the pass from Mulholland and hit a perfect shot low and just in side the far post that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Lemont, who entered the day ranked ninth in the nation in save percentage, stopped six shots as Farmington ends its season at 6-5-6.

Castleton keeper, Mike Anthony stopped four shots to convert his third-straight shut-out. The Spartans improve to 12-7-1 overall and will play host to Husson College at 1:00 pm in the North Atlantic Conference Final. Husson earned a spot in Saturday’s final by way of a 2-0 win over Becker College. In the two teams’ only meeting of the season, Castleton won 2-1 in Castleton. [Box Score]
