Juniata defeats Castleton 5-0 in final game at Stevens Institute
Hoboken, NJ-A stingy defense and Kim Wagner’s (Middletown, PA/York) hat-trick were enough to propel Juniata past Castleton in the final game of the two day event at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.
Castleton found themselves down 1-0 7:27 into the first half after Wagner converted a Michelle Campbell (Annville, PA/Northern Lebanon) assist for what would prove to be the game winner. The score would stay 1-0 until the five minutes into the second half when Wagner scored her second goal of the day. Campbell would score five minutes later, and Wagner would cap her day of scoring with a goal at 55:53. The Eagles tacked on one more for good measure with 10 minutes remaining when Melissa Gorman (Boxborough, MA/Acton-Boxboro) beat the keeper, assisted by Erin Smith ( Palmyra, PA/ Palmyra).
Castleton could barely muster a scoring opportunity as they were out-shot 32-1. With the win Juniata goes to 2-0 on the young season and is back in action on Saturday, September 9 when they play host to Bridgewater at 1:00 PM. Trisha Clark (East Dover, VT/Brattleboro Union) stopped 15 shots in the loss, as the Spartans fall to 1-1. Castleton will play host to Plymouth State University on Wednesday, September 6 at 4:00 PM.
