Kean proves to be too much for Spartans

Union, NJ- Kean University freshman Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) scored two goals to lead the Cougars to a 6-0 victory over Castleton State College, this afternoon in field hockey action. With the win, the Cougars improved to 6-5, while the Castleton suffers their seventh loss of the year and fall to 4-7.

Kean raced out to a 2-0 first half behind goals by Vicki Egerer (Washington, N.J.) and Caitlin Slemmer (Glendora, N.J.), with Katie McGee (Cherry Hill, N.J.) assisting on both goals. Early in the second half the Cougars broke the game open when Gibbs scored back-to-back goals 10 minutes into the period. Freshman Julie Bachovchin (Piscataway, N.J.) scored her fourth goal of the season assisted by Gibbs at the 65:26 mark of the game. Two minutes later Eliza Frake ( Burlington City, N.J.) capped the scoring when she pushed home a rebound off a shot by Liz Margiotta (Berkeley Heights, N.J.).

Kean out shot Castleton State 22-9 in the win, while the Cougars held an 18-5 advantage in penalty corners. Cougar freshman goalie Jeni Barry (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) made six saves in the win, while Jessica Viens (Waterbury, Vt.) stopped 9 shots for Castleton.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday, October 14 when they travel to play Philadelphia Biblical College in a match-up at noon. Castleton travels to Maine this weekend for a pair of conference games, beginning Saturday at Simmons. [Box Score]
