Castleton shuts-out Lasell 1-0 in North Atlantic Conference action

Fair Haven, VT-Castleton came out with something to prove and everything to gain with a win, and the team responded with a 1-0 win over Lasell. The Spartans out-shot Lasell 23-9 and held a 17-4 edge in penalty corners en route to their second consecutive shut-out in NAC play.

Marie Amaral (Barre, VT) scored the game winner with 2:15 left to play in the first half, off from a Calla Taft (Cazenovia, NY) assist. The Spartan defense and keeper Trisha Clark (East Dover, VT) finished the shut-out by keeping the determined Lasers at bay. Lasell goalie, Laura Gallagher (Westwood, MA) made several remarkable saves in the second half to help keep the Lasers in the game, but they could not convert.

Clark finished the game with five saves and her second consecutive shut-out. Gallagher had 11 saves in the loss, seven in the second half. With the win Castleton improves to 6-9 (4-4 NAC), but more importantly have forced a three-way tie for the fourth seed in the upcoming NAC tournament. By virtue of a tie-breaker scenario the Spartans will host the Lasers on Saturday. Castleton has one more non-conference affair Tuesday, October 24 at Union at 4:00 PM. Lasell falls to 6-10 (4-4 NAC) and plays host to Salem State College on Thursday, October 26. [Box Score]
