Castleton ends season with quarterfinal loss 2-1 to Lasell

Newton, MA-In a game that took more than three days to play, and spanned New England Castleton fell to Lasell in North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal action. The game began on Saturday in Fair Haven, but with 3:15 remaining in the first half the officials deemed the field unplayable and forced the action to be suspended. The Spartans took a 1-0 lead to the turf at Lasell, and after playing scoreless for another twenty minutes lost their advantage to the Lasers.

Castleton took the lead on a perfectly crossed pass from Trishia Fellows (Hartland, VT/Hartford) to Marie Amaral (Barre, VT/Spaulding) 21 minutes into the contest. High winds and driving rains forced the game to be postponed, and poor field conditions forced Castleton to travel to the lower seeded Lasers. Nicole Bryant (Watertown, MA/Watertown) scored the equalizer with 19 minutes remaining in the game off from a Rachel Johnson (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) assist. Less than one minute later Amanda Wasowski (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke Acad.) scored the game winner assisted by Katie Bryer (Dresden, ME/Hall Dale).

With the win Lasell improves to 7-11 and will travel to top-seed U. Maine-Farmington on Tuesday, October 31 for a semifinal contest. Laser netminder, Laura Gallagher (Westwood, MA/Westwood) stopped four shots in the win, while Castleton's Jessica Viens (Waterbury, VT/Harwood Union) made three saves in the loss. The Spartans end their season at 6-11. [Box Score]
