New England College remains undefeated with 5-1 win at Castleton  

Castleton, VT-New England College scored three goals in the first half and notched a pair in the second to cruise to their seventh straight victory. Amanda Lester ( Columbia, CT/ Windham) and Brittney Vogrin ( Tornoto, Ontario/Loretto Abbey) each tallied a pair of goals to lead the Pilgrims to victory.

Lester scored her ninth goal of the season six and a half minutes into the first half of from a perfectly crossed ball from Lori Zaniboni (Wenham, MA/Hamilton-Wenham). 22 minutes later Vogrin would convert her ninth goal of the season from a Lester assist. Jodie Dresser ( Kenne, NH/Keene) scored of from a Zaniboni corner at with 1:27 left to round out the first half scoring. Castleton would not go away in the second half as Marie Amaral ( Barre, VT/Spaulding) converted a Carolyn Griggs ( Lincoln, VT/Mt. Abraham) assist into her third goal of the year. The Pilgrims proved too much to handle, however, as they closed the game with Lester and Vogrin each scoring their tenth goals of the season.

Trisha Clark ( East Dover, VT/Brattleboro Union), 7 saves, and Jessica Viens ( Waterbury, VT/Harwood Union), 12 saves, combined to take the loss for 2-4 Castleton. Jamie Johnson ( Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield) recorded one save in the win. The Spartans are back in action on Saturday, September 23 when they play host to St. Joseph’s College ( Me.) as part of Castleton’s Alumni/Homecoming weekend. The Pilgrims will play host to Commonwealth Coast Conference foe, Endicott College on Saturday at 1:00 PM as well. [Box Score]
