Castleton falls to Simmons in overtime

Boston, MA-After scoring a combined four goals in the first 23 minutes, both teams settled in and needed overtime to decide the outcome of a closely contested North Atlantic Conference battle.

Simmons struck first, just one minute into play when Elizabeth Hennigan sent home a feed from Kristin Perkins. Less than two minutes later Marie Amaral (Barre, VT/Spaulding) would answer unassisted. Natasha Cote scored less than 30 seconds later to put the Sharks on top 2-1. After some solid defensive play and several excellent saves by both goalies, Carolyn Griggs (Lincoln, VT/Mt. Abraham Union) scored the equalizer at 22:41. The score would stay knotted at two for the remainder of regulation. Emily Webb scored the game winner 3:24 into the extra period to give Simmons the victory.

With the win Simmons improves to 4-10 (4-3 NAC) while Castleton falls to 4-8 (2-3 NAC) The Sharks play host to WNEC on Sunday while the Spartans travel to Husson. [Box Score]
