Western New England downs Castleton 2-0 in North Atlantic Conference match-up  

Springfield, MA-The Western New England College field hockey team remained undefeated in the North Atlantic Conference with a 2-0 victory over visiting Castleton State Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Bears, who evened their record at 5-5, are now 2-0 in the conference and didn’t allow a goal in either match.

Sophomore Brenna Fitzgerald ( Manchester, NH) tallied her first goal of the season (and only second career goal) only 5:48 into the contest as WNEC took a 1-0 lead at intermission. Junior Cori Eggert (Denville,NJ) had the assist.

The game remained close until senior Allison Jameson (Brattleboro, VT) blasted a shot in from close range with 3:40 left in the game for an important insurance goal. Sophomore Samantha Hensen (Branchville, NJ) assisted on the play.

Junior goalie Emilie Donka (White River Junction, VT) made four saves for the Golden Bears (all in the second half).

Sophomore goalie Jessica Viens (Waterbury, VT) did a nice job in the net for the Spartans (3-5, 1-1 NAC) finishing with 14 stops. [Box Score]
