Castleton defeats Green Mountain, Vermont Technical 320-356-468 in season opener

Poultney, VT-Bryan Smith (St. Albans, VT/BFA-St. Albans) shot a low-round 74 to lead Castleton State College to a season opening victory over Green Mountain College and Vermont Technical College at Lake St. Catherine Country Club.

After Smith’s 74 the Spartans had a pair of golfers shoot sub-80 rounds with Nick Wood (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) finishing second with a 77 and Kevin Maguire (Vestal, NY/Vestal) third with a 78. Green Mountain’s Alex Puzas and Charlie Domenie shot 82 and 81 to round out the top five respectively.

As a team the Spartans scored a 320, while the Eagles finished second at 356 and Vermont Technical College ended the round at 468. Castleton is back in action this weekend when they travel to Middlebury to participate in the Duke Nelson Classic at Middlebury College Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17.
