Castleton wins second straight, defeats Tufts 5-1.

Castleton, VT-The Castleton State College men’s hockey team continued their recent hot streak by defeating ECAC East opponent Tufts 5-1. The Spartans received goals from five different players en-route to their seventh win of the season. After a scoreless first period, Brent Swanson opened the scoring less than five minutes into the second frame, and Steve Smiddy fired home the game winner just over two minutes later.

Castleton received a goal and an assist from both Brandon Heck and Steve Culbertson, while Tyler White rounded out the Spartan goal scorers. Tufts got on the board late in the third period when Evan Crosby sent home a Brian Bailey pass.

With the win Castleton improves to 7-3-3 (3-2-3 ECAC East) while the Jumbos fall to 2-9 (0-8 ECAC East). Jay Seals got the start in goal and earned the win for Castleton, stopping 14 shots. James Kalec stopped 36 shots in the loss. [Box Score]
