Castleton unleashes fourth-quarter barrage to win second-straight

Manchester, NH-The Castleton State College men's lacrosse team scored eight unanswered goals in the fourth quester to take an 11-3 win over Daniel Webster College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.

Castleton raced out to a 3-1 lead after the first quester, but a scoreless second, and two unanswered goals by the Eagles in the third left the game knotted at 3-3 entering the final period. It was then the Spartans took over, and came away with the 11-3 road victory.

Captain, Brett Quillia had five assists in the win, including a pair on first period goals by Josh Davis and Devon Wood. Craig MacDerment scored the third goal of the first period unassisted, before Daniel Webster's Ryan Manning got one back with six seconds remaining.

Wood notched the game winner just 21 seconds into the fourth quarter off a Jake Rick assist to open the scoring barrage. Single tallies from Phil Barry, Robert Hass, Michael Martinez, Daniel Luzzi and Korey Counos supplemented a pair of goals from Rick to round out the scoring.

Michael Mamunes stopped three shots in earning his second straight win, improving the Castleton's record to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in NAC play. Chris Leyland stopped six shots in the loss as Daniel Webster opens the season 0-1 (0-1 NAC).

Castleton returns to action on Tuesday, March 25 versus New England College at 4:00 pm. [Box Score]
