Castleton defeats MCLA on the road 3-1

North Adams, MA- Thirteen 2nd half shots by the Trailblazers were not enough to overcome Castleton State in men’s soccer action Wednesday night dropping a non-league match to the Spartans 3-1.

MCLA freshmen Tom Murphy (Springfield, MA) scored on a cross from sophomore Brian Szabo (Needham, MA) in the 75th minute, but that was the only goal the Trailblazers could produce. Castleton scored two 1st half goals, Jesse Brown (Ledyard, CT) on a penalty shot in the 18th minute and Ryan Hahn (Benson, VT) in the 37th minute. Gerrit Marino (Waitsfield, VT) rounded out the Spartans scoring with a goal in the 63rd minute.

The Trailblazers out shot their opponent 20-13. Castleton goalies Mike Anthony (Dartmouth, MA) (8 saves) and Ben Colona (Sandwich, MA) combined for 13 saves. Zach Natale (Florence, MA) had 8 saves for MCLA in the net.

With the loss MCLA drops to 3-6, while Castleton evens their record at 5-5. The Trailblazers are back in Saturday at 2:00 PM when they play host to MASCAC foe, Bridgewater State. Castleton will travel to NAC foe Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday for a 1:00 PM tilt. [Box Score]
