Castleton gets shut-out win over Thomas College 2-0

Castleton, VT-Castleton State College out-shot Thomas 47-9 and held an 11-1 edge in corner kicks to take home their second North Atlantic Conference win of the year. Jesse Brown (Ledyard, CT/Ledyard) sent home a penalty kick in the 48 th minute for the game winner.

After being turned away numerous times in the first half, including 10 saves from Terrier keeper, Dustin Greene (Danville, VT/ Danville) the two teams entered halftime scoreless. In the 48 th minute a flurry in front of the Thomas goal mouth resulted in a foul inside the box. Brown sent the ensuing penalty kick just above the Greene’s outstretched hand for the deciding goal. Gerrit Marino (Waitsfield, VT/Harwood Union) put home an insurance goal in the 85 th minute unassisted.

Mike Anthony (Dartmouth, MA/ Dartmouth) was credited with the shut-out after recording four saves. With the win the Spartans improve to 4-5 (2-1 NAC) and are back in action on Wednesday, September 27 when they travel to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts for a 4:00 PM game. Greene ended the day with 19 saves, as the Terriers fell to 0-6 (0-3 NAC). Thomas is off until playing host to NAC foe, Lasell College on Saturday, September 30 at 1:00 PM. [Box Score]
