U. Maine-Farmington spoils Castleton’s homecoming 4-1

Castleton, VT-On a wet a windy day, U. Maine-Farmington found solid ground, equaling their scoring output for the season versus Castleton State College. Freshman, Alec Brown (Berwick, ME) scored his first two career goals and Jeff Tatarczuk (Westbrook, ME) added a goal and an assist to lead the Beavers.

In the 27 th minute of play Brown scored his first career goal off from a Tatarczuk assist. Just over five minutes later, Tatarczuk blasted home a direct kick to give the Beavers a 2-0 cushion. In the 42 nd minute Brian London (Bath, ME) was able to convert a Castleton turnover into the third goal of the half. The Spartans would gain some momentum heading into the second half as Tyler Butterick (Hardwick, VT/Hazen Union) scored his first career goal with 1:25 remaining. In the second half, however the Spartans could not muster a comeback as they only put one shot on net and it was turned away. Brown would tally one more for good measure late in the half, assisted by Andrew Knox (Waterloo, IA).

Brian Lamont (Brunswick, ME) stopped five shots to earn the win, while Ben Foster (Westbrook, ME) stopped one shot in second half relief. With the win the Beavers go to 2-3 overall (2-0 NAC) and are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Johnson State College for a 1:00 PM game. Castleton keeper, Mike Anthony (Dartmouth, MA/ Dartmouth) made three saves in the loss. The Spartans fall to 3-5 overall (1-1 NAC) and play host to NAC foe, Thomas College tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM. [Box Score]
