Sunday River, ME - The Castleton State College men's ski team placed 8th overall out of the top 20 teams in the nation at the USCSA National Championships at Sunday River, ME. William Richard Colt (Hanover, NH) was Castleton's top skier in the combined standings with a 21st place showing. Colt placed sixth in the slalom event and 48th in the giant slalom out of 113 competitors. Junior Justin Schwartz (Bondville, VT) placed 20th in the giant slalom and 54th in the slalom, good enough for 33rd overall for the week. Gregory Towle (Coventry, RI) finished 44th in the overall standings with a 46th place showing in the giant slalom and 67th in the slalom.
The Spartans finished eighth in the team standings behind University of Massachusetts-Amherst (1st), Plymouth State University (2nd), Sierra Nevada College (3rd), Colby-Sawyer College (4th), Rocky Mountain College (5th), St. Olaf College (6th) and Clarkson University (7th). Finishing behind Castleton in the team standings were Colorado State University (9th), Babson College (10th), Colorado Mountain College (11th), College of Idaho (12th), Sierra College (13th), Syracuse University (14th), University of Minnesota (15th), Penn State University (16th), United States Air Force Academy (17th), West Virginia University (18th), Northern Michigan University (19th) and Alfred University (20th).
