(April 22, 2008) - The Castleton State College department of athletics has announced the hiring of Joseph “Butch” Paul as the men’s golf head coach. Paul is the second coach in the history of the program.
A 1972 graduate of Castleton, Paul is currently the Vice President of the North American Golf Division of Total Kids Wear International, a company that produces PGA and LPGA Tour branded junior apparel.
With nearly 30 years of experience in the golf industry, Paul brings not only a strong playing and instructional background, but also the ability to motivate and recruit the region’s top male golfers. Paul has maintained long term relationships with several PGA, Senior PGA and LPGA teachers, and has been a part of several instructional videos and products. He has been instrumental in the organization and promotion of charity golf tournaments nationwide, and figures to be a key ingredient in the continued success of the annual Castleton Golf Classic benefiting all 20 Castleton teams. This year’s tournament will be held on August 15, 2008 at Green Mountain National.
Paul takes over a program that was guided through the first three season of existence by PGA professional, Leo Reynolds. Reynolds, who will step down following the spring season, has piloted the Spartans to a 122-116 overall record and won the North Atlantic Conference Championship in 2005.
