Castleton Picked Second in NAC Preseason Poll

(September 12, 2007) - The University of Maine-Farmington, defending NAC champion, has NACbeen chosen to finish at the top of the 2007 conference field hockey standings in a vote by the league’s coaches. UMF received four first place votes and 73 points overall. The Beavers, who return 9 starters from their perfect 8-0 conference campaign a season ago, will rely on the strong play of NAC First-team goalkeeper Kaeleigh Barker.

Four other teams received first place votes. Castleton, which returns 10 starters including three 2006 NAC second team selections, will be aided by the addition of junior transfer Kayla Blank, a 2006 first team Empire 8 selection a season ago. Husson, Lasell and Simmons all received one first place vote.

Western New England, who competed as an associate member in 2006, will compete with the Great Northeast Athletic Conference beginning in 2007. Thomas did not sponsor a field hockey team in 2006.
