(October 24, 2007) - Defending champion Maine-Farmington earned the top seed in the North Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Championship when tournament play begins this Saturday, October 27. UMF finished tied atop the NAC standings at 7-1 with rivals Castleton and Husson but earned the top seed following predetermined conference tiebreakers. The Beavers, 10-4 overall, will host eighth seeded Elms (2-14 overall, 1-7 NAC).

Castleton (11-4 overall, 7-1 NAC), who defeated Husson in overtime in the final weekend of regular season play, will enter as the second seed and will host seventh seeded Wheelock (5-11 overall, 3-5 NAC). Husson (10-4 overall, 7 1 NAC) earned the third seed and will meet Thomas (5-6 overall, 3-5 NAC). Fifth seed Simmons (7-10 overall, 4-4
NAC) will travel to fourth seed Lasell (7-10 overall, 4-4 NAC). The higher seeded Lasers turned back the Sharks 2-1 earlier this season on the road.

The top eight teams qualify for the NAC Championship. Predetermined tiebreaking procedures were used to seed teams with identical conference winning percentages. Quarterfinal games will be played on Saturday, October 27 at the higher seed. Quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinals held at the higher seed on Tuesday, October 30 at 2:00 p.m. Semifinal winners will meet Saturday, November 3 at the highest remaining seed. Game times are subject to change. The NAC Champion receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship.
