(November 12, 2007) - The University of Maine-Farmington was chosen by the league’s coaches as the North Atlantic Conference women’s basketball preseason favorite. The Beavers, led by head coach Jamie Beaudoin in his eighth season, received eight first place votes and 116 points in the NAC women’s basketball preseason poll. Maine-Farmington, which lost two all-conference first team selections off of last seasons 17-0 squad, does return three starters led by NAC Rookie of the Year Caitlyn Laflin who averaged 14 points and 6 rebounds per conference contest. The Beavers, who were only the third team to go undefeated in conference play, also won the NAC tournament for the second straight season.
Maine Maritime, which finished the 2006-07 season with a 15-2 mark and earned an at-large berth in the NCAA tournament, will attempt to replace three-time NAC Player of the Year Alyssa Burns. The Mariners will have 11 freshman on the roster and return just two starters from a team that made back to back to back NAC tournament finals.
Castleton, which finished atop the West division a season ago, earned 103 points in the poll placing third. Husson placed fourth with 81 points and one first place vote.
