Castleton competes in USCSA Thompson Division Slalom

Lyme, NH-Women: The Castleton women's ski team traveled out of their regular-season division to compete in a competitive field of ECSC Thompson Division skiers. The Spartans suffered from some unfortunate luck on Saturday, as three of their top four slalom skiers did not finish the first run of today's course. Heather Patterson (Stockton, CA/Lincoln) led the Spartans with a seventh place to pace the team to a fifth place finish out of 11 teams. Boston University won the race behind individual winner Mollie Zapata. Lindsey Wiken (Hampden, ME/Hampden Academy) and Colleen Pruss (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) finished 12th and 15th respectively to finish the team scoring for Castleton.

Men: The Spartan ski team raced to a third place result in a field of 11 teams in ECSC Thompson Division action at the Dartmouth Skiway. Worcester Polytechnic Institute won the race, followed by Tufts University. Castleton finished third and was led by sophomore Jeff Giegler (Danbury, CT/Danbury), who finished sixth out of 95 competitors. Teammates Greg Towle (Coventry, RI/Bishop Hendricken) and Evan Vomacka (Belmont, NH/Bishop Brady) wrapped up the team scoring by finishing 11th and 13th, respectively. Andrew Benson of Tufts won the race.

The Spartans will go at it again in ECSC Thompson Division competition on Sunday at the Skiway for another slalom event.
