Castleton remains unbeaten in McBrine competition
Middlebury, VT-Women:
The Castleton State College women's ski team continued their undefeated season in ECSC McBrine Division action on Saturday in slalom action at the Middlebury College Snowbowl. Castleton's Nicole Kondziela (Bath, PA/Northampton) put together the two fastest runs of the day to win the women's race at 1:19.60. Gordon College's Katie Knaus checked in at 1:27.35 to take home silver, while Keriann Bartley of Marist College finished third at 1:29.61. Brenna Nolan (Pittsford, VT/Otter Valley) posted her top result of the season by finishing fourth for the Spartans, while Emma Harvey (Kattskill Bay, NY/Lake George Central) and Colleen Pruss (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) finished the scoring for the Spartans in fifth and sixth, respectively in a field of 75 women. Castleton's total team time of 352.79 was good enough for first, as Yale (383.25) and the University of Rhode Island (418.72) finished second and third in the ten-team competition.

Men: On Saturday the Castleton men's ski team finished with a total team time of 305.03 in front of Wesleyan University (345.31) and Yale (354.75) in the ten-team slalom event. Justin Schwartz (Bondville, VT/Burr and Burton) led the Spartan challenge with a time of 1:13.34, just behind URI's Nick Young, who finished second at 1:13.29. Yale's Brett Andrews won the gold at 1:12.23. Jeff Giegler (Danbury, CT/Danbury) continues to ski consistently for the Spartans, as he finished in fifth, while teammates Greg Towle (Coventry, RI/Bishop Hendricken), Corey Gray (North Conway, NH/Kennett) and Tim Rogers (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug) were sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively out of 85 racers.
Giegler currently sits third in the overall individual season standings after four races, while Kondziela, Harvey and Heather Patterson (Stockton, CA/Lincoln) take up the top three spots in the women's field.
The Spartans will be back at it on Sunday, as the travel back to the Snowbowl for a giant slalom competition.
