Castleton remains unbeaten in McBrine Division

The Castleton women's ski team had a banner day at Pico Ski Resort today sweeping the top four spots in an ECSC McBrine Division slalom to clinch the team win. The Spartans were led by Nicole Kondziela (Bath, PA / Northampton) who finished first with a total two-run time of 1:28.98. With the victory, Kondziela now has five wins on the season and 14 for her collegiate career. Kondziela was followed by freshmen Lindsey Wiken (Hampden, ME / Hampden Academy) and Brenna Nolan (Pittsford, VT / Otter Valley), who claimed their first every podium positions in second and third, respectively. Another freshman, Heather Patterson (Stockton, CA / Lincoln) just missed the podium in fourth, while Emma Harvey (Kattskill Bay, NY / Lake George Central) finished sixth. Sophomore Colleen Pruss and freshman Katharine Cournoyer finished eight and 12th, respectively. Castleton's team time of 363.8 was plenty ahead of Yale University (427.1) and Marist College (427.3) in the nine-team competition.

Men: The Castleton State College men's ski team extended it's unbeaten streak to 16 consecutive ECSC McBrine Division wins with another team victory today. Castleton finished with a total team time of 331.5, while Wesleyan University checked in at 374 in the ten team event. Yale's Brett Andrews won the race with a time of 1:18.56. Nick Young of the University of Rhode Island finished second with 1:18.76, while Castleton's Justin Schwartz (Bondville, VT / Burr and Burton Academy) found himself on the bottom step of the podium in third at 1:20.20. Schwartz's teammate, Gregory Towle (Coventry, RI / Bishop Hendricken) finished in fourth, while Thomas D'Errico (Shrewsbury, MA / Shrewsbury) and Corey Gray (North Conway, NH / Kennett) finished the team scoring in sixth and seventh, respectively. Tim Rogers (Wilbraham, MA / Minnechaug Regional), Ryan Dunleavy (Lake George, NY / Lake George Central), Teddy Panasci (Wamogo, CT / Wamogo Regional) and Bobby Dreissig (Natick, MA / Natick) finished 8th, 9th, 11th and 15th out of 80 racers. Sophomore Jeffrey Giegler (Danbury, CT / Danbury) battled back from 35th to finish 16th after finishing with the fastest second run on the day.
