Castleton men sweep slalom weekend, women wind up second again

Women:

The Castleton Spartan women's ski team placed second once again behind Boston University at today's ECSC Thompson Division slalom event at Bromley Mountain Resort. Castleton's total team time of 255.70 was good enough to beat nine teams in the race, but it wasn't good enough to take first, as Boston University came home with a team time of 246.08.

Northeastern University (267.30), Trinity College (276.77) and Green Mountain College (285.97) placed third, fourth and fifth in the team standings.  Boston University was led by Mollie Zapata (1:20.05) and Teagan Lukacs (1:20.89), who finished first and second in the race. Holy Cross College's Marina Vornle placed third with a total two-run time of 1:21.90.

Stephanie Kopko (Perkiomenville, PA), 11th after the morning portion of the race, clocked the fifth fastest second run to move herself into fifth overall on the day at 1:24.07 to lead the Spartans. Kelsey White (Traverse City, MI) and Madalyn Kirbach (Mendon, VT) also had fast second runs to move themselves up the leaderboard, as they finished eighth and ninth out of 72 racers. Kaileen Balzano (Johnstown, NY) put down two solid runs as she placed 11th for the Spartans. Heather Patterson (Stockton, CA) was fourth after the morning leg of the event, but slipped to 12th after making a technical error in her second run.

After six ECSC Thompson Division races, the lady Spartans are in second place overall with 12 points, while Boston University stand in first at 10. Northeastern University (19), Green Mountain College (26) and Tufts University (32) are third, fourth and fifth out of eleven teams.  Individually, Boston University's Mollie Zapata and Teagan Lukacs are first and second with 89 and 80 points. Castleton's Heather Patterson (46) and Stephanie Kopko (43) are sixth and seventh.
