Castleton splits at Lasell, wins opener 3-1, loses shortened nightcap 6-4

Newton, MA-The Castleton State College softball team split a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader at Lasell College, winning the opener 3-1, and dropping the second game 6-4. The second game was stopped in the fifth inning due to darkness.

In the opener Angie Carpenter went the distance, striking out 10 in the win. Carpenter allowed six hits, and one earned en route to the win.

Rachel Dunn went 2 for 2 with an RBI and one run scored to lead the offense. Rachel Hunt added a pair of hits and one run, while Allison Lamay and Carpenter each had RBI singles.

In the nightcap Castleton fell behind 5-0 after three innings, but plated four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cut the lead to one. After Lasell scored one in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-4, the game was called due to darkness.

Rachel Dunn continues to swing a hot bat as she went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI and one run scored.

Meg Robitaille took the loss for Castleton, pitching five innings and allowing six earned. Robitaille and Lamay each had RBI singles to aid the offense. [Game One Box Score] [Game Two Box Score]
