Castleton swept in North Atlantic Conference doubleheader by Lesley

Castleton, VT-The Castleton State College softball team dropped a pair of North Atlantic Conference games 6-0, 6-1 to Lesley University.

Game One: Lesley University starting pitcher, Alicia Burnett scattered five hits over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one to pick up the complete-game shut out.

The Lynx scored two in the third inning, one in the sixth and three in the seventh en route to the win.

Gianna Spaziante singled and scored in the third to break a scoreless tie. Lani Cabral-Pini reached on a bunt single and scored on Alyson Durben’s rbi-triple. Durben added an rbi-double in the sixth and a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Tosha Whittemore took the loss for Castleton, going the distance and allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out three. Allison Lamay reached twice for Castleton on a single and walk.

Game Two: Alicia Burnett once again went the distance in earning the win, this time allowing one earned run on eight hits while striking out five.

Lesley scored two runs in the first, second and sixth innings to earn the win and improve to 20-8 (12-2 NAC).

Lani Cabral-Pini walked three times and scored three runs from the lead-off spot to spark the Lynx offense. Jodi Fralick was 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI, while Ashley Cunningham added an rbi-double.

Laura Rogers led the 8-18 (7-7 NAC) Spartans with a 3-for-4 day including a double and one run scored. Rachel Hunt added a pair of hits, and Allison Lamay an RBI for Castleton.

Angie Carpenter took the loss for Castleton, throwing six innings and allowing six earned on seven hits and six walks while striking out two.

Castleton returns to action Wednesday when the Spartans travel to Lyndon State for a 3:00 pm non-conference double dip.
