Castleton solidifies top-spot in NAC West with convincing win at Becker.
Leicester, MA- The Castleton State College women’s basketball team won their fifth straight game, and improved to 13-6 overall and 9-3 in NAC play. With the win the Spartans move two games ahead of second-place Becker who fell to 13-6 (8-5 NAC).
Castleton raced out to a 47-29 halftime lead as senior Jenn Goff blistered the Hawks on the inside for 20 points and six rebounds in the first half. Carley Amedore and Mary Nienow provided some scoring punch from the outside as they tallied 12 and 11 in the opening half respectively.
Goff would finish with a game-high 27 points and 13 rebounds. Nienow ended the game with 22 points, connecting on 6-11 from beyond the arc, and just missing her career-high of 24 set at Becker last year. Amedore was the only other Spartan in double-figures, finishing the game with 16. Sophomore point guard, Jess Banks dished out eight assists and had just one turnover in the win.
Becker was paced by Stacy Goodwine with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Kristin Karat chipped in 12 points, and Jessica Crebase 11.
The Spartans return to the road on Tuesday for a NAC showdown at Johnson State, tip-off at 7:30 PM. [Box Score]
