Castleton cruises to 81-52 NAC win over Becker
Castleton, VT-The Castleton State College women’s basketball team won for the ninth time in their last ten games as they defeated Becker 81-52 at Glenbrook Gymnasium. Jenn Goff poured in a game-high 25 points and hauled in five rebounds to pace the 17-7 (13-4 NAC) Spartans.
Castleton jumped out to a 37-19 halftime lead and never looked back as four Spartans reached double-figures and all but one found her way into the scoring column. Goff scored 17 of her 25 in the second half, while Jess Banks chipped in 13 of her 16 in the final 20 minutes.
Becker’s Beth Pion scored a team-high 22 points and grabbed six rebounds, but she was the only Hawk in double-figures as Castleton’s defense held them to just 36% shooting on the night.
Carley Amedore scored 13 points while Mary Nienow rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 off the bench.
The Spartans forced 25 turnovers and dished out 26 assists, while turning the ball over just 14 times themselves.
With the loss Becker falls to 14-10 overall and 9-8 in conference play. The Hawks entered the night in a three-way tie for the second seed in the NAC West.
