Castleton downs Green Mountain on the road, 59-48

Poultney, VT-The Castleton State College women’s basketball team jumped out to a ten-point halftime lead and held on to win a non-conference affair at Green Mountain 59-48. Jenn Goff was the only Spartan in double-figures as she finished with 16 points and seven rebounds.

All eight Spartans who played scored as the team finished with 18 assists and only 11 turnovers. Green Mountain refused to go away in the second half as the Eagles cut the lead to six with just under ten minutes remaining. Natalie Clark led the team with an game-high 17 points. Castleton aided in the Eagle comeback attempt as they shot an anemic 6-17 from the free throw line in the second half.

The Spartans took care of the little things to preserve the win, out-rebounding the hosts 46-33, including a 17-3 edge on the offensive glass. Jess Banks had six points and 10 rebounds from her point guard spot, while LeeAnne Ketchen added nine points and eight rebounds including four offensive from the wing.

With the win Castleton improves to 16-7 while the Eagles fall to 8-14. The Spartans will play host to a NAC weekend, hosting Becker Friday night at 8:00 and Elms Saturday afternoon at 3:00. Green Mountain returns to the Eagle Dome Thursday for a 6:00 tip-off versus Morrisville State. [Box Score]
