Castleton wins NAC tilt versus Mount Ida 84-72, Xenos nets 1,000th

Castleton, VT-The Castleton State College women’s basketball team won for the third time in four games, defeating Mount Ida 84-72 at the Glenbrook Gymnasium. Kristin Santos netted a game-high 27 points for the Mustangs but it was not enough to overcome a balanced Spartan attack

Castleton held a 44-35 lead at halftime, thanks in part to a late spurt by the home squad. Castleton trailed 33-29 late in the half, but used a 15-2 run to close out the half and gain the halftime edge.

Jess Banks scored a team-high 24 points, including 16 in the second half to pace the 10-6 (7-3 NAC) Spartans. Jenn Goff followed Banks in the scoring column with 15 points and 9 rebounds, while Carley Amedore added 14 and Maru Nienow 11.

Mount Ida’s Adrienne Xenos became just the second Mustang women’s basketball player to reach the 1,000 point club, by netting 11. Danielle Ring and Cherie Parisi each scored 15 points to round out the Mustangs in double-figures.

With the loss Mount Ida falls to 7-8 and 4-3 in conference play. The Mustangs will travel to Johnson State tomorrow for a 1:00 conference match-up, while Castleton will play host to Lasell at the same time. [Box Score]
