Castleton falls to Middlebury 59-53.
Castleton, VT-Down by just two at halftime, Castleton saw their deficit climb to seven with just under 14 minutes to play. The Spartans would out-score Middlebury 9-2 and pull even at 40 with 9:40 remaining in the second half. The Panthers would use a 12-2 run over the next five minutes fueled by Katie Fisher who scored six of her game team-high 16 during the span. The Spartans would not go away, however as they cut the deficit to five behind the hot shooting of Carley Amedore, who netted a game-high 17 points, including 5-10 from beyond the 3-point arc. Castleton had a good look to cut to 2 points with 21 second remaining but their three-point attempt rimmed out, and the Panthers would hang on down the stretch.
Joining Fisher in double figures for Middlebury was Emily Johnson and Lani Young with 13 each. Young added 9 rebounds, including 4 on the offensive end. Jenn Whiting was the only other Spartan in double figures with 16.
Castleton falls to 2-2 and is back in action this weekend when they travel to Massachusetts to open up their North Atlantic Conference schedule at Wheelock on Friday night at 7:00 and at Bay Path Saturday afternoon at 1:00. The Panthers improve to 3-1 and will return home to take on non-conference opponent, Skidmore on Friday at 7:00. [Box Score]
