Castleton loses third straight, falls 62-49 to undefeated Maine Maritime.
Castleton, VT-The Castleton State College women’s basketball team held Maine Maritime to 27% shooting from the floor, but could only muster 34% themselves in a 62-49 North Atlantic Conference loss. The Mariners won the battle of the boards and stroked 24-29 from the free throw line to gain the advantage.
Alyssa Burns scored a game-high 20 points and hauled in 10 rebounds to lead the 13-0 (7-0 NAC) Mariners. Burns helped seal the Spartans’ fate late in the contest, knocking down 9-10 from the charity stripe. Castleton trailed by 11 at the break, thanks in large part to the efforts of senior, Jenn Goff. Goff recorded a double-double with 12 pints and 13 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.
Jess Banks scored a team-high 16 points, including 4-6 from beyond the 3-point arc. Michelle Gott-Stillwell also reached double-figures for the Mariners as she pumped in 16.
Castleton falls to 7-5 (4-2 NAC) and is back in action on Tuesday when they play host to NAC foe, Johnson State at 5:30. Maine Maritime will take their perfect mark to Bowdoin College to take on the top ranked team in the country on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. [Box Score]
