Castleton's five game winning streak snapped by Norwich 56-46

Northfield, VT-Castleton struggled offensively and couldn't overcome a 10 point first-half deficit versus a very talented Norwich University team. Sarah Chap logged a double-double with 14 points and a season-high 17 rebounds to pace the Cadets to a 56-46 win over the Spartans at Andrews Hall. As a team, NU commanded the glass, with a 45-25 advantage in rebounding. The win gives Norwich an 11-1 record on the season, while Castleton State goes to 7-3.

NU started the game on a 7-0 run and went on to build an 11-point lead midway through the first half. CSC then outscored Norwich 17-11 over the next nine minutes to trail 27-22 with just over two minutes remaining. The Cadets led at the break, 33-23.

The Spartans opened the second half with a 7-2 run to cut the lead to five points. Norwich then responded with a 14-2 run for a 49-37 lead with just under nine minutes remaining. The Cadets led by as many as 13 points and held the Spartans scoreless over the final minute and a half to get the 56-46 win.

Both teams had trouble hanging on to the ball at times as there was a combined 45 turnovers.

Two other Norwich players posted double figures. Monica Selander scored 15 points, while Caitlin Bailey added 11 points. Carley Amedore was the lone double-digit scorer for Castleton with 11 points.

Norwich will open GNAC play on Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. game at Western New England. Castleton State will return home on Friday night with a 6:00 p.m. NAC game against Husson. [Box Score]
