Castleton defeats Plymouth State 82-73 in home opener.

Castleton, VT-Castleton found themselves down 37-32 at the half, but used a 25-3 run early in the second half and saw their lead swell to 18 with just over nine minutes to play. The Panthers would not go away and brought the game within six before Castleton made their free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach.

Sophomore guard Jessica Banks led five Spartans in double figures attack with 20 points and five rebounds. Following Banks in the scoring column was LeeAnne Ketchen with 15 and seven rebounds. Leading the Panthers was Karly Gray with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Castleton was buoyed by the strong play of senior guard, Carley Amedore in the second half. Amedore finished with 12 points and six assists. Also contributing to the Spartan run was Mary Nienow. The sophomore swing player scored 12 points off the bench including three from beyond the three-point arc.

Joining Gray in double figures for the Panthers were Annie Alosa and Lauren Daniels each with 12, and Heather Thomas with 10. Castleton’s Jenn Whiting rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points and seven while battling through foul trouble for most of the game.

Castleton is back in action on Tuesday, November 28 at 5:30 PM when they play host to Middlebury. Plymouth is also back in action on the 28 th when they host Colby-Sawyer, tip-off at 6:00 PM. [Box Score]
