Castleton salvages weekend split, wins another nail-biter 61-60.

Waterville, ME-For the second time in as many days Castleton played in a 1-point game, and for the second time in as many days sophomore point guard Jess Banks had an opportunity for a last second shot. At Maine-Farmington Banks saw her 15' jumper go in-and-out with 1.5 seconds left on the clock on Friday night. Saturday afternoon the 5-6 point guard got the bitter taste out of her mouth as she sank a pair of deciding free throws with just .8 seconds on the clock.

Castleton trailed early 17-6, but after a timeout with 12 minutes remaining in the opening half, the Spartans surged to a 24-6 run to enter halftime leading 30-23. The Terriers would not go away, even after Castleton's lead ballooned to 15 in the second half. Thomas would cut it to a one point deficit, before Lea McNary scored with 14 seconds remaining and give the Terriers the lead. Coming out of a timeout Banks turned the corner off a Jenn Goff screen and was fouled by McNary with .8 seconds remaining. Banks stepped up and knocked both free throws in to give the Spartans the narrow margin of victory.

Goff led all scorers with 22 points and four rebounds, while Banks chipped in 13 points and four rebounds. Joining Goff and Banks in double figures were LeeAnne Ketchen with 11 and MAry Nienow with 10.

McNary led the Terriers with a 19 point effort. Kim Drosdik scored her 1,000th career point in the first half and finished the game with 13 points, while Amanda Godley and Amy Miles each chipped in 12.

Castleton returns home this weekend for North Atlantic Conference match-ups with Mount Ida on Friday night at 6:00 and Lasell on Saturday afternoon at 1:00. [Box Score]
