Castleton loses overtime thriller to Maine-Farmington 55-54

Farmington, ME-Castleton fell for the third time in conference play, losing a back-and-forth thriller to NAC-undefeated, U. Maine-Farmington 55-54. Mary Nienow drained a 3-pointer from the corner with eight seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to the extra frame knotted at 46. Framington's Kari Simpson would make the deciding bucket with 12 seconds remaining in overtime, and Castleton's final shot went in-and-out as the Spartans dropped the heart-breaker.

Farmington led 26-20 at the half, as both teams played an intense, suffocating defense that limited both teams to sub-30% nights from the field. Simpson led all scorers with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while teammate Caitlyn Laflin also turned in a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Leading the way for the Spartans was Carley Amedore who scored a team-high 17 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists. LeeAnne Ketchen chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds, while Jenn Goff added nine points and six rebounds.

With the loss the Spartans fall to 8-6 (5-3 NAC) while Farmington improves to 10-3 (6-0 NAC). Both teams are back in action Saturday as Castleton travels to Thomas College for a 1:00 tip-off and the Beavers host Johnson State, also at 1:00. [Box Score]
