Castleton falls in opener of Keene State College Tip-Off Tournament

Keene, NH-The Castleton State College women's basketball team fell 55-37 to Fitchburg State in the opening round of the Keene State College Tip-Off Tournament. The Spartans will take on Mount Ida College in the consolation round on Saturday at 1:00 pm. Mount Ida fell to host Keene State 94-45 in the first game of the night.

The Spartans trailed 27-17 entering halftime, but cut the lead to four as LeeAnne Ketchen and Mary Nienow hit back-to-back three-pointers to open the second half. The Falcons would answer with a 10-0 run and never look back as senior Diana Doyle led the team with 17 points.

Castleton's Mary Nienow scored a game-high 19 points, but no other Spartan reached double figures as the team struggled to find its rhythm on offense. [Box Score]
