Castleton Salvages Third Place Finish in Keene State Tip-Off

Keene, NH-Junior guard Jess Banks scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Castleton State College women’s basketball team to a 59-58 third-place win over Mount Ida College at the Keene State tip-off tournament.

The Spartans never trailed, but could not put Mount Ida away as the Mustangs kept within striking distance throughout. Cherie Parisi led the Mustangs with 16 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Castleton led 29-22 at halftime thanks in large part to a 6-9 performance from beyond the three-point stripe. Banks canned 3 of 5 attempts in the first half, while Mary Nienow and LeeAnne Ketchen were 2 for 2 and 1 for 1 respectively. Nienow was the only other Spartan in double figures, finishing with 12 points on 4-7 shooting from beyond the arc. The junior guard was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 15.5 points in the two games.

Freshman Brieanna Holliday scored a career-high 15 points and Lauren Hickey scored 10 points to round out the Mustangs in double figures.

The Spartans return to action on Tuesday, November 20 when they travel to Plymouth State for a non-conference game at 5:30 pm. [Box Score]
