Castleton wins for 10th time in last 11 games, 49-41 over Johnson St.
Johnson, VT-The Castleton State College women's basketball team, ranked eighth in the country in scoring defense entering the contest at 50.1 ppg, put the clamps down on Johnson State College in a 49-41 North Atlantic Conference victory.
Castleton allowed just 10 field goals the entire game, as the Badgers shot a woeful 20% from the field and were 0-12 from three-point range.
The Spartans held a 28-18 advantage at halftime, as 10 of the Badgers' points came via the charity stripe. Johnson State hit 21-30 from the line on the night to keep them in the game.
Claudia Martineau led all scorers with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the 8-10 (4-4 NAC) Badgers. Jenna Lewis added 13 points, including 11 from the free-throw line.
Castleton once again utilized a balanced scoring attack, led by Laura Cary's 10 points. Seven other Spartans scored on the night, with Melissa Verrill and Mary Nienow following Cary with eight points apiece.
With the win Castleton improves to 11-6 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The Spartans return to action Friday night when they host Wheelock College at 6:00 pm. [Box Score]
